Describe the importance of Sunday in the life of the Christians.

/How does Sunday clear away the rust of the whole week?

Sunday is often regarded as a day of rest and leisure in many cultures and societies. It is the day of rest from labour. It serves as a refreshing day, allowing individuals to recharge, and prepare for the week ahead. It is a day of rest and refreshment for the body and of blessing to the soul. A man is so constituted that his bodily welfare needs at least one day a week for rest from ordinary labour.

To Addison the observance of Sunday is not just a human custom. People work hard for six days and their life becomes monotonous and tiresome. On Sunday they leave their work and join the congregation at church saying prayer to God. Their minds get refreshed with religious sermons. They also get mental pleasure appearing well-dressed.

According to Addison, people would have become savages if they did not attend church on Sunday. Their attendance in the church keeps them away from barbarism. Thus, the observance of Sunday has both social and religious values.
