Speech on East India Bill - Part B
Mention the four objections raised by the bill against the Charter of the East India Company. [NU. 2012, 2017, 2020]
Burke believed the fact that if the Parliament fails to find a good method of governance, India must see its permanent separation. That's why he did not allow any irregularity related to people's interests. On the other hand, he was sure that protecting India from mistreatment would also keep the British system from getting corrupt. To show this, he pointed out four objections against the Bill of the company.
1st. The bill is an attack on the chartered rights of men.
2nd. It increases the influence of the crown.
3rd. It diminishes the influence of the crown in order to promote the interests of certain ministers and their party.
4th. It deeply affects the national credit.
